Working for a major automotive manufacturer from their Design office in central London, the PQ Specialist will be responsible for the perceived and product quality of future vehicles through digital & physical vehicle evaluation  for all aspects of vehicle construction

The role is available on an initial contract to March 2022 and a 12 month rolling contract there after, with a starting rate of £40.22./hr plus £6.03 /hr holiday accrual and overtime rates at time and half (salary equivalent ~£81,500).

Deliverables and KPIs

  • Digital & physical vehicle evaluation to identify potential Design Quality concerns for all aspects of vehicle construction, materials or usability
  • Design Quality proposal development from ideation to production level
  • Material / part appearance definition and documentation to deliver Design Intent
  • Design specification & concept sheet evaluation to validate robustness of Design Intent for styling proposals
  • Variation control development and co-approval throughout the whole development process
  • Attend and support or lead project meetings to ensure understanding that the project direction is clear & communicating with internal / external stakeholders where necessary
  • Collaboration with the Design Studio creative teams on upstream exterior & interior Design Quality development including engineering & manufacturing development support from concept to model freeze
  • Collaboration with styling, engineering, manufacturing & suppliers to identify, develop and implement countermeasures that resolve design & PQ concern items – both upstream and current vehicles
  • Collaboration with Product Planning functions regarding vehicle specifications that influence the level of PQ
  • Ability to interrogate, understand and implement the voice of the customer as well as future customer forecasting
  • Research and analyse competitive trends and consumer/market trends
  • Value analysis and adherence to budget management targets

Qualifications/Skills Required:

    • A degree in Industrial Design / Product Design or equivalent
    • Understanding of the principles of automotive development, manufacturing and vehicle assembly
    • Experience of a wide range of component design and feasibility analysis for the automotive industry
    • Experience within an automotive design studio environment is mandatory
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; able to work cross-functionally with an efficient yet effective manner, across a range of audiences
  • CAD & 3D visualisation skills Alias/V-Red mandatory. (Deltagen / NX desirable)
  • GD&T implementation to influence Design, Engineering & Manufacturing
  • Tolerance analysis / digital simulation (Ansys VRXPERIENCE or equivalent desirable)
  • 3D surface quality analysis (GOM Inspect or equivalent desirable)
