Techniche Global are supporting an award-winning global marine outfitting company to appoint a Quantity Surveyor responsible for providing professional surveying support to the Managing Surveyor and the Senior Project management team, implementing commercial processes and systems on projects, from tender stage to final account.

Salary:                 £45-65k per annum
Location:              Newry, Northern Ireland (100% onsite)
Duration:             perm/full-time
  
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide commercial expertise to aid with the delivery of the contracted work by taking the commercial lead in a team.
  • Provide accurate and timely commercial reports and advice to the management team whilst ensuring the contract achieves the appropriate commercial targets.
  • Ensure the project and programme contract, cost, quality and time targets are met.
  • Ensure prompt and regular submission of sub-contract payment applications and ensure that subcontractor payment applications are fully inclusive of all variations and or change orders, encountered and costed within the period.
  • Build a close relationship with the Company’s Operational Manager for the allotted project to ensure the goals for the productivity within the work area are fully met and assisting the operations team with their customer relationship.
  • Maintain and coordinate all commercial reports required for the successful commercial management of the contract.
  • Preparation of the forecasting and reporting of costs against value to ensure that it is in line with the contract construction sum, as agreed and handed over by the pre-construction department.
  • Ensure the accuracy of the commercial data and record keeping at site level, with particular attention paid to the labour profiles, and monitoring of same. Also to enable the operational lead to have clarity on any weekly over or underspend on the projected labour profile.
  • Ensures compliance with all contractual requirements, provide support and training on both the contract and the projects commercial requirements to the site team.
  • Management of subcontract accounts including interrogation, procurement, payments, variations and final accounts.
  • Preparation of all The Company’s sub-contracts to meet the company standards.
  • Ensures all direct subcontractor commercial issues are resolved and payments are timely and correct.
  • Identifying, raising and pricing of variations/ change orders in line with the change control process including identification, measurement claims and rogue rates.
  • Obtain maximum recovery through accurate measurement of the works completed, if required.
  • Management, training and advice to direct reports (if applicable).
  • Adherence to company KPI targets and ability to achieve same.

Travel

  • Extensive worldwide travel in accordance with the roles commercial functionality which will involve working for periods of time on sites throughout the world.

  • All duties commensurate with the Job Title as directed by Management.

  
SKILLS / EXPERIENCE

  • BSc in Quantity Surveying (or other equivalent commercially related discipline)
  • Management experience of:
  • – full functionality and contract practice.
  • – the core change control process under the JCT/ NEC/ FIDIC and bespoke forms of contract provision.
  • – supply chain engagement including ITT preparation, analysis negotiation and selection assessment to place orders.
  • Detailed understanding of:
  • – Cost Value Reconciliation (CVR), preparation, detailed forecasting principles and monthly reporting.
  • – The financial and commercial issues facing marine interior fit out projects, preferably (but not essential) spread across the construction industry, in varying disciplines.
  • – Negotiation and settlement of disputes and accounts relating both to customers and suppliers.
  • Ability to:
  • – work in a team environment contributing across a business unit or area.
  • – ensure standards and specifications are met.
  • – work with colleagues to deliver project and operational performance.
  • – manage client relations.
  • –cost and negotiate variations in line with contract conditions.
  • –manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Sound knowledge of construction & marine practices and standards
  • Effective upward reporting to senior manager.
  • Early identification of any issues that may affect productivity and commerciality in the project.
